Community Focused

BCNI is a not for profit formed in 2020 by the merger of two local not for profits, Better Community Neighborhoods, Inc and the Community Land Trust of Schenectady, Inc. BCNI continues a decades long legacy of providing access to affordable housing across the City of Schenectady, concentrated in the Hamilton Hill and Eastern Ave. corridors.  All rental properties in the BCNI portfolio are owned, operated, and managed by BCNI using our own full time in-house staff. BCNI offices are in the heart of downtown Schenectady with easy public transportation access.


The BCNI resident experience focuses on ease of access from paying rent to communicating with staff. Our state of the art “Buildium” software provides an online portal that every resident can access and allows residents to:

  • Pay Rent from the convenience of your living room.
  • Email BCNI staff
  • Enter work orders for maintenance issues directly for immediate delivery to our staff

If you have a smart phone, a computer, or a tablet device BCNI can help you access the online Resident Center to take control of your routine communications with BCNI.

If you prefer to communicate in person, over the phone, or via email, the BCNI offices and staff are available Monday thru Friday from 8:30 AM thru 5:00 PM at our offices located at 670 Franklin St. Suite 201 – Schenectady, NY 12305. BCNI also provides an afterhours emergency maintenance number for use when an issue poses a threat to the safety and/or health of the tenants or the property.

Future Growth

BCNI is committed to expanding its capacity thru both new construction of ground up rental units and the rehabilitation of existing distressed properties in the City of Schenectady.  Our goal is to create affordable apartments for the 21st century, with the amenities and services you expect.
